The Climate Action Group was established in 2020. Our purpose is twofold:
- Engage decision makers to drive action on climate change locally and nationally
- Inspire local people to take action.
Our activities include:
- Working with Woking Borough Council as a critical friend, making recommendations regarding their climate plans and progress, to encourage them to meet their net-zero goals, e.g.
- submitting a question to the Woking Borough Council’s March meeting: see here for the question and the Council’s response
- Reviewing local planning applications for their consideration of climate change and their impact on our environment, e.g.
- plan 2024/0475: residential development at West Hall, West Byfleet
- plan 2022/1190: construction of a new two-storey Senior School building at Hoe Bridge school, Woking
- Raising awareness of the climate emergency in Woking and engaging the community in climate action, e.g.
- the Climate and Nature Bill – see here for details
- Great Big Green Week
- training, e.g. Climate Fresk, Biodiversity Collage, Take the Jump.
We typically meet on a Wednesday evening very 2-3 months, in Woking or online. We also have an active WhatsApp group.
Check our diary page for the next meeting and email hello@wokingenvironmentaction.com if you’d like to join us!
No prior knowledge regarding climate change is required – just your enthusiasm and ideas!
